Emma Watson and Kristen Stewart have a couple of things in common. Both are 21-year-old actresses. And both became famous starring in big budget fantasy film franchises--Harry Potter and Twilight Saga respectively. Recently, La Watson revealed that she's afraid of Hollywood. Kristen Stewart has expressed the same fear. Is Emma chasing the more beautiful Twilight star? Or does she have her own reasons for fearing the "dream factory?"
Of course, both Emma Watson and Kristen Stewart must feel the pressure to prove themselves now that both the Harry Potter and Twilight Saga franchises are complete. Both young women must be eager to prove, quite understandably, that their fame depends on their talent and hard work and not on the luck of having landed roles in the right vehicles. Now that they're rich and famous, they have to prove it wasn't all a fluke. That they're more than one trick ponies.
That may sum up K-Stew's trepidation. But Watson's insecurities seem to run deeper. Her fears are all about her looks. She finds Hollywood's expectations of actresses today "quite scary." Especially since, unlike the beauteous Kristen Stewart, she doesn't physically fit Tinsel Town's female prototype. And apparently, she doesn't believe in plastic surgery. Or even in altering her body through diet and exercise.
"I don't have perfect teeth," laments La Watson. "I'm not stick thin. I want to be the person who feels great in her body and can say that she loves it and doesn't want to change anything. It's ridiculous that [loving the way you look] seems such an unrealistic goal."
Indeed, but it's a fact of life--for all women, not just Hollywood actresses. Hopefully, Emma Watson will be able to come to terms with her looks and her fears about how Hollywood feels about them. Or not. She can always retire and pursue a different career.
